It was late at night when time Detective Butler got the word that two bodies were found burned to a crisp in Mayo’s house, but even still, he had to see it for himself. When he entered the morgue, a chill shot straight down his spine. No matter how many dead bodies he had seen in his career, going into a morgue always did something to him. The remains of 4Pound and Pam were horrific. Both of their bodies had been burned beyond recognition. An accidental fire was quickly ruled out by the fire department, determining that an accelerant had been used to start the blaze.

“The autopsy determined that the female was shot in the back of the neck,” the medical examiner said, while leading Butler to metal slabs.

“So they were already dead when the fire started?” Butler asked with a curious look on his face.

“Actually, she wasn’t. I found her lungs full of smoke, which means that she still was alive. This fella here got it bad,” the examiner said, touching what was left of 4Pound’s head. “It was like somebody had poured gasoline right on his face.” We sent both of their teeth to the lab so hopefully we can identify them in a day or two,” the examiner concluded.

Butler stared at the bodies. This killing was malicious, and personal. This happened at Mayo’s house. He would be his first stop after leaving the morgue. His phone rang, Officer Starnes advised him of Chad’s arrest, and his son’s kidnapping. Butler listened, but what Starnes said next, made his antenna go up. It was the mother of the boy. Williams advised Butler that she had a tattoo of MHB on her ankle. Starnes worked the gang unit, and when he saw the tattoo, he recognized it from being undercover off Rozzell Ferry. He knew that Butler was investigating MHB, and felt he needed to know what was going on.

“What’s the name of the female you got?” Butler asked out of curiosity.

“Gwyneth Wright,” Starnes answered as he looked over at Gwen sitting in the lobby of the hospital waiting to see Zion. Until now, Butler didn’t have Gwen on his radar for being MHB. He didn’t know her, but he had a gut feeling. She was off the radar for a reason, and he wanted to know exactly what that reason was.

“I’ll be there in 20 minutes,” Butler told Starnes before hanging up and leaving the morgue.
